A Fun-Filled Bento Class with 26 Middle School Students and 9 Teachers from the United States

Patia's Japanese Cooking Class in Tokyo experience

This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of 36 enthusiastic participants to our Create a Kawaii Teddy Bear Bento in Tokyo class, including 26 middle school students from the United States along with their nine teachers. The group’s energy brought a wonderful vibrance to the class, and it was fantastic to see everyone engaging so actively with each step of the bento-making process.

Given the large group size, we held the class at a spacious venue in central Tokyo's Ichigaya area. The highlight of the session was, without a doubt, making tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet).

This part of the class always brings lots of excitement as students work on rolling their omelets just right, and this group was no exception—they absolutely loved it! The room was filled with laughter, excitement, and a bit of friendly competition as they perfected their technique.

When it came time to arrange their bentos, everyone turned serious, fully focusing on carefully placing each item to create the perfect lunch box. It was a joy to see them deeply immersed in the art of bento-making, paying attention to every little detail. Watching these students take such pride in their creations was truly rewarding.

After the event, I was thrilled to hear that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience, particularly the unique opportunity to make adorable teddy bear bento. It’s always fulfilling to know that our classes leave lasting memories, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming more groups eager to dive into the world of Japanese cuisine and bento art!
